Years ago while working at a mall I walked by a piercing shop where a 3 month old baby girl was getting her ears pierced. She was screaming as loud as she possibly could, writhing, and was reddish purple from the fight. Her mother was restraining her, her head smashed against the mom’s chest as the piercer was attempting to line up the hole correctly. As a new mother myself I was completely traumatized by the scene. I wanted to go over and tell them to stop and that they looked like complete assholes for making a tiny baby cry, SCREAM, in front of an entire mall full of people. Piercing a baby is purely for the mother, as the child obviously has not requested it. To cause pain and possible infection is SELFISH, especially if it is for a completely optional cosmetic reason. Mommy wants her to look cute….guess what? She already is!
